(BANGKOK, June 15, 2022)—On June 15, 2022, Thailand’s House of Representative approved the draft Act for Amendment to the Civil and Commercial Code, commonly known as the marriage equality bill, following the Thai Cabinet’s rejection of an earlier draft two months ago. If approved by the Cabinet, this amendment will protect the fundamental right to marriage and family for everyone, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity.

On June 7, 2022, Fortify Rights published a news release calling for Thailand’s House of Representatives to approve the draft act and shared translations of the latest relevant bills with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in support of their further advocacy.
