U.S. State Department Cites Fortify Rights in Annual Report on Religious Freedoms

(D.C., May 15, 2023)—On May 15, 2023, the U.S. Department of State’s annual Report on International Religious Freedom for 2022 cited Fortify Rights’s report Genocide by Attrition published in June 2022, highlighting how the NVC process  “is an integral part of protracted attempts to deny Rohingya their identity and citizenship.” The State Department report further quoted Fortify Rights’s report to reiterate that “[i]dentity politics in Myanmar have a strong ‘racial’ as well as religious component and, while not the sole cause of the atrocities, were and are a contributing factor.”
