(BANGLADESH, September 22, 2023)—On September 22, 2023, The Fort hosted an online report launch and panel discussion organized by the Rohingya-led Youth Congress Rohingya (YCR), for its first report: “This Persecution is the Worst There is”: Restrictions on Rohingya Freedom of Movement in Bangladesh. The more than 80-page report details crippling restrictions imposed by the Government of Bangladesh and widespread violence and extortion by the Armed Police Battalion, creating devastating conditions in the camps. Earlier, Fortify Rights supported YCR by editing the 80-page report and assisting in the development of a news release to promote the launch and findings of the report.
Fortify Rights also livestreamed the report launch on The Fort’s Facebook page and helped promote the event by creating a short film about the event and Facebook event invitation. About 60 participants attended the event, and the Facebook livestream received about 580 views during the event. To ensure media coverage of the report, Fortify Rights shared media contacts and connected YCR with journalists, leading to coverage by the Straits Times and Channel News Asia.
Fortify Rights was also among the speakers who participated in the event and contributed information about restrictions on movement for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.
