(D.C., August 26, 2023 )—On August 26, 2023, in an article published by Voice of America, Rohingya human rights defender and founder of the Rohingya Student Network Maung Sawyeddollah called on the international community to “to provide the Rohingya refugees with the necessary tools to rebuild our lives.”

The article, entitled “Thousands Rally to Demand Rohingya Refugee Rights on Genocide Remembrance Day,” reported on a mass rally held by refugees in Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar District camps for Genocide Remembrance Day on August 25, 2023.

The article also highlighted a speech made by Maung Sawyeddollah during the rally, explaining that “the day was a reminder of the atrocities that have scarred the Rohingyas’ lives and an opportunity to convey their disappointment to the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court over delayed justice.”

Fortify Rights connected Voice of America to Maung Sawyeddollah to promote Rohingya voices in the media.
